It is possible but not advisable is the general consensus.
One specific note I have come across is that the virtuoso.lck file
which gets created in the DB startup folder by default cannot exist
on an NFS partition due to file locking issues, although their is an
ini file setting

is it possible/advisable to do striping over a partition that is
mounted via NFS? (The disk where virtuoso (5.0.3) is running is almost
full...)
