It's most beneficial when you don't have httpd in front of Tomcat and are
processing a lot of

installed, click + Tomcat and check the option NATIVE

Chances are, no. The message you site is only and INFO level log
event. Tomcat is continuing using it's standard Coyote connectors.

Add /usr/local/apr/lib to LD_LIBRARY_PATH before starting Tomcat. That will
do it.
