I've had similar behavior when changing branches in the source with the IDE
open. Especially if there are missing classes between the branches. Seems
that confuses the IDE. Only solution when it gets like that on my case is
to delete the cache folder.

I see that type of 'freeze' if my settings.xml is very restrictive and for
some reason there's no connection to company maven repository, i.e. VPN
