When I just tried to reboot fedora 18, it printed
about 3 lines on the console, then sat there forever.
I typed Ctrl-Alt-Delete and it printed a new line about
the alsa save soundcard service not working.
I could type it in again and get the same message

I updated dhclient to dhclient-4.1.1-13.fc12.i686.rpm and updated initscripts to dhclient-4.1.1-13.fc12.i686.rpm, re-booted and my system is up and running with full networking. Thank you very much for your help.
