lftp is a command line ftp client, so it doesn't require gnome, and is
pretty smart and very convenient to use.

i do not understand you
vsftpd is a FTP-SERVER and has nothing to do with kde or gnome
you can use konqueror or krusader simply by typing ftp://yourserver/

I have used gftp for many years with KDE and also the file manager (and more)
Krusader which works really well.
