Run your program from menu System-Preferences-Desktop Effects or from xterm.
This should produce a dump (backtrace) that will be filed automatically, or if
not then you can extract it manu

desktop-effects.out desktop-effects", the output is:
Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'desktop-effects' received an X Window System
error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
