I'm replacing the very old computer that has run as my local BackupPC
server, and want to retain the server's data pool (i.e., all the
existing backups).
The old server wrote its data
If you type:

It will tell you you can find the homepage at:

and from there find documentation on how to configure and run BackupPC.

Hi folks,
I have a (maybe stupid) question : I have installed BackupPC , but I can
not launche the application.
I also can not find the app listed in Applications.
So where can I find the app and start the program BackupPC ?

Hard links were only used in v3 for deduplication, the restored file would
not be a hard link to my knowledge, however, that question may be better
asked on the backuppc user list.

IIRC when I saw it it was something in /var/log/rsnapshot

I've never had the message directly from rsync,
although I use it all the time.
Also, I'm pretty sure (but not certain)
that I've had the message from BackupPC for other reasons,
perhaps before rsync is called.

Is BackupPC packaged for Fedora now?
While this particular error message is, I agree, pretty useless, I'll make a general comment.
Software is, necessarily, notorious for generally only being able to "present the evidence immediately before it". Most applications, for example
Many applications give unhelpful error messages,

claws-mail get my e-mail, but otherwise things seem to mostly be working
fine.
But I'm having some problems with BackupPC. I use this machine to

the socket creation was moved there, but it seems it didn't make sure

On a side note, I think the current 3.2.1 release has some SELinux
issues. I updated mine based on the SEAlterts and created my own
package. I sent my updates to the package maintainer for Fedora but I
do not believe he's incorporated them yet.

Ah, that's a good point, those two lines of the LOG file may not be
related, which would be misleading. I should check if any sockets are
being created. Thanks for the tip.

I think the program is trying to open a UNIX socket file and for some reason
(the directory where the file should reside no longer exists or some
permission problems) is failing.
