Looks it's a Fedora only system with LVM installed, so either wipe Fedora out or
install Windows in a virtual machine.
I am using ArchLinux as my host machine and Windows & Fedora as Guest.
Everything run in VirtualBox and all work fine.

__Simp

happen. I think this technique will work on Fedora as well, maybe
simpler.
By the way, I am really looking forward to W540 :) Love Thinkpads! I
have another Thinkpad X230 with Arch and everything is working great
too.

Well, if you are looking for something like the old days, why don't just
use gnome 2 based desktops like MATE, which may save you a lot of time
to find the features you want and make them work.

I think it is just because I have 8 virtual cores turned on in
VirtualBox. If I give it only 1 core, it will never go more than 100%.

and 16G of RAM. Even with that, it is still not enough for gnome-shell
to work smoothly. I have to restart the gnome-shell using C-F2 -> r
sometime to reset the gnome-shell, or even do a log out and log in again
to make work.
But anyway, nothing much I can do.
