manager?
2. Is there a way to restart display manager while keeping the apps alive?
I guess not because the apps depend on display manager but I wonder if such
a thing is feasible.

to my home network I would prefer to first start it
from a cleaning usb/dvd and at least catch and erase them off line instead
of giving them the opportunity to try and conquer my linux realm :)
