Before kernerl 4.17.7, I had issues during my duplicity-based backups.
With kernel 4.17.7, no issue to date.
I've been testing it since its release in Fedora 28.

Define "backups." I'm using it and had no issues using rsync to back up
to an external drive on both a desktop machine and a laptop:
# nice -n 19 /bin/rsync -av -S --exclude
