It's relatively trivial if you do it in the simplest way: Configure/compile/install with different --prefix's each time (meaning one instance lives entirely under /usr/local/apache2a, another under /usr/local/apache2b, etc). Then the only thing you need to do is adjust the Listen directive to tell

Here, have you tried making a directive yet? Instead of using the defaults, why not make a which has the ServerName of "localhost" and any other hostnames you have assigned to your IP. That way, you can control the exact location where the data is located from and make sure that it is correct.

It sounds like you are seeing the default index page. Did you try to edit /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/index.html as Graham suggested? If you did so and don't observe any changes in your browser the page may be "cached". Try clearing you browsers cache and reloading the page. -Robert the Karri

The test page you added, was it test.html or index.html? If you just go to http://localhost/ Apache will, by default, load index.html. You can override this setting by making a .htaccess file with DirectoryIndex test.html But you need to make sure that "AllowOverride" is set to "All" in httpd.c
