Same problem here (eeepc 901). Workaraound works:
sudo iwpriv ra0 set WirelessMode=9 #(WirelessMode=5 aswell)
sudo iwpriv ra0 set HtBw=1
And reconnect manually afterwards via network-manager.
I dont see the point in installing the driver manually, if its just an

While I understand that it could be useful to automatically initialize
the database upon installation, on a large system this will result in
your "apt install" stalling for minutes/hours.
I had to kill the updatedb command from a separate terminal to be able
to use apt again.
