It has a slightly different signature, but yes i believe it's still
present in Intrepid. I seem to recall seeing that it was moved into the
kernel and disabling the driver no longer works, resulting in a 5 minute
boot delay and continual writing to /var/log/messsage of the following:

Having a similar problem, on Acer 8204. Screen is very dim and
plugging/unplugging makes no difference.
As a workaround, disabled all dimming and set /proc/acpi/acer/brightness
(was 0) seems to do the trick manually.
