I get same; redid on fresh USB, observed on second shutdown (first
happened to be obscured by splash...) with no software additions/updates
to fresh install.

With a live-usb of ubuntu8.10 via included usb-creator
mtab accumulates appendages of:
tmpfs ... ... /lib/modules//volatile
seemingly on each shutdown or system crash (I crash-test...so they run
about even in number...I still need to resolve
so after a few deliberate crashes, I've noticed stale info from df
giving usage of disks mounted before crashes but not mounted after
restart. My guess is that mtab is being read from casper-rw after being
generated on boot, overwriting the correct state.

I have just updated my Ubuntu 12.04, and I'm experiencing freezes too.
Total system lockup. The only way out is to hard shutdown my laptop. I'm
using a sysmonitor program and it's on the taskbar, and it's showing
high usage, CPU > 85%, whenever this happens.

I was trying to run my LLM Artificial intelligence model on my ubuntu machine.
I am using Zotac Nvidia RTX4090 and when i run my program on it it hangs my
Ubuntu machine and i needed to restart forcefully.
I think there's a recent update which may be cause this issue, because
