Upgraded my xubuntu install from 9.04 to 9.10
after install sound stopped working
The install is on a Dell Latitude D610
The touchpad also stopped working.

Yeah, make sure the menu.lst is pointing to the new kernel. This is
what fixed both my sound and touchpad.
Here is my config.
## should update-grub add savedefault to the default options
