i finally managed to get my canon ip4600 working by installing manually
a gutenprint driver as a .deb package from their site.
i will stay with kubuntu 20.04 for the whole LTS duration. i am fully
satisfied with this release.

after upgrade to 20.04, cups cannot find the correct driver and install a
generic text only driver.

then the proper driver appears when you add the printer in settings, not
the useless generic text driv
