Fedora 9 Live seems to be somewhat similar to Intrepid in the X
department. And it boots OK on that machine. There's no xorg.conf

conf. Still failure, but now with non-movable mouse cursor on black
screen. However, magic-sysreq now accepted for restart. Did startx
inside script with 2-min sleep allowing capture of logfile to thumb

Finally managed to set up scripting to dump logfile rather than trying
from kbd which is dead after startx runs. Rather different Xorg.0.log
results show up. This is probably the most useful output, since it's for
the vanilla xorg.conf.

One afterthought after a day of Googling.
After booting in text mode, I edited xorg.conf, adding
Driver "vesa"
startx got the X screen/mouse/kbd working, but of course there was no
logged-on user.
I tried starting up calling
/etc/init.d/gdm start

be doing after copying over your xorg.conf while in single mode is an
"init 2". Doh!
Finally running. BTW, I can log out and in again without crashing. But I

You have to be in text mode for the kernel panic to display. e.g. press
Ctrl-Alt-F1. I tested this on Feisty, but I now have a broadband
internet connection so I don't need to use a dial-up modem. I do still
have the modem and dialup account, so I'll try reproducing it on Gutsy.

I was uploading files to Flickr (through the web UI, just selected them
straight off the CF card in Firefox), deleted them afterwards, unmounted the CF
card, and resumed browsing. I accidentally hit Ctrl-O in Firefoxat one point,

After some research I have found a new Linux driver for the ATI Radeon card and
I have installed it. There should be a pointer to the video drivers in the
releases.

I also have automatic contact creation unchecked, and Evolution still
creates a new contact everytime I reply to an email. I don't understand

misdetected as cs4232, so no sound.
Workaround is to force loading of cs4236 module and blacklist cs4232,
