Set a corner of the screen to be a "show desktop" hot corner in CCSM.
1) Focus a firefox windows.
2) Hide windows using the hot corner.
3) Focus another window
4) Unhide windows using the hot corner

I haven't installed any local upstart job or any package that adds one
(at least to my knowledge).
I've done the following:

Actually I don't think it is. The touchpad on the Dell Latitude 6510 is
not recognized as such but as a PS/2 Generic Mouse and I do not have a
TouchPad section at all (see screenshot attached)

Hi Jeremy,
I'm afraid that nothing can be done about this, since apparently it is a bug
in the HP 8440p's BIOS. Anyway, I have now kernel 2.6.35-20 and the problem
is persistent, also under Win7.

Hi,
I actually want to *deactivate* the touchpad. I prefer working with the
pointer in the middle of the keyboard. But even though Remco's
workaround gets the touchpad recognized I cannot deactivate it and it
still interferes with typing.

Fan goes up at max revs when system resumes, and stays on all the time.
Disconnecting AC turns off the fan but only for as long as AC is
disconnected. When suspend/resuming on battery, fan stays off, but it

USB drives have trash cans because moving a file within a drive is much faster
than moving a file between drives. When moving a file within a drive, all that
changes is the file name and the file is not touched. Deleting a file removes
the reference to the file but again, the file itsel

The suggested fix did have the touchpad recognized as such in
"System>Preferences>Pointing devices" but when I select "Touchpad Off"
from the select list it is not deactivated and it still interferes with
typing text...

System > Preferences > Windows entry remained void. So I think it is
just a matter of tidying packages up for the new Ubuntu Maverick release
and other releases that include Compiz.
