Public bug reported:
After upgrading to latest Karmic packages
(0.8~a~git.20091005t192303.1d28ad1-0ubuntu2), nm-applet refuses to
connect to my wifi network. When I try to manually select my wifi
network it stops responding and I have to use a "kill -9" and restart
the applet. Wired network works

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
I'm running latest packages (2.28.0-0ubuntu1) on Karmic, and my laptop
is a Compaq Presario X1000 (X1007EA to be precise). My battery is fully
charged, but when I unplug external power it takes about 1-2 minutes

This affects me aswell, and has done since I upgraded to Karmic. On my
machine it is only triggered by mail-notification when I receive a new
mail, so an educated guess would (of course) be that it is triggered
when mail-notification tries to show a popup (that I never have a chance
to see, since n
Well, I did a full upgrade, but the network-manager-gnome package seems
to have been released a couple of hours later than nm-applet. Did
another upgrade now, with new network-manager-gnome, and everything
works fine here too.

I have mail-notification configured with a gmail account.
But, I must add, that I marked this as affecting me after doing an

bunch of packages that were released after my comment, and now I can't
reproduce the problem anymore. Hop
Oh, when you mention it, I did start mail-notification manually this
time. Usually I have it start with the start-up programs. Could it have
something to do with it being started before notify-osd?

I have upgraded all packages with the latest version since I upgraded to
Karmic (alpha 2 at that time), and this happens every time I receive a
new mail. I even did a fresh Karmic install when alpha 3 was released,
still the same. Strange thing you can't reproduce it. Is there any more
info I can p

I beg to differ. I have seen this behaviour before, but it has not been
visible for a great deal of time, since notify-osd have been crashing
whenever that dialog was to pop up. Since the latest bug fix in notify-
osd this behaviour is visible again.

I can confirm that this happens on my Compaq Presario X1000 as well. In
Natty there was a workaround; setting "use_time_for_policy" to false in
gnome-power-manager's gconf configuration. But that doesn't work
anymore.
This bug has been known for years, and now the workaround is gone too.
