I have the same issue after upgrading to Jaunty. Three screens running
on two nvidia 7800GTs with the nvidia driver 180.44. I get exactly the
same behavior with respect to the ghost images of the pointer.

I have exactly the same problem. I just upgraded to feisty from edgy
and run and xp client under vmware-server. Under dapper & edgy, the
samba share worked perfectly, but since upgrading to feisty I have the
problem described above. Additionally, it seems that navigating through
the samba share
NAT networking for VMware is also a workaround.
It appears that this issue is specific to XP VMware guest machines that
try to access samba shares hosted on a Feisty machine, as I am able to
browse these shares and transfer files easily from native XP machines.

I can confirm this bug on a fresh install of Hardy. Disabling compiz
seems to alleviate it for me. FYI, I'm using the nvidia restricted
driver.

The theme also does not seem to be applied to the icons in nautilus
either. It seems the theme only gets applied to the window borders.
Perhaps this is not a gnome-panel problem?
