And somehow I ended up reconfiguring Xorg. then setting the driver to
Vesa ended my problems. I now have a monitor with only 800x600
resolution but I think I can notch it up fairly easily.

Oh, and Now I'm almost sure this is a bug caused by compiz. I
reinstalled compiz and then tried compiz --replace &. GDM hard
restarted.
So for now, I am without compiz.

1. Navigation toolbar is removed, but I dont think this wil be a sane
default. I sometimes need to alt-back or alt-forward, which would not be
an intuitive thing for a new user
2.Laco's first mockup looks good, but I need the icon-tree-compact
the latest upgrade fixed it.

I'm also having this problem in intrepid. I migrated my HDD to a new
one, and changed the swap partition size, now, my new swap partition is
not even loaded at startup. And running blkid gives me no uuid for my
new swap partition, it says /dev/sda7: TYPE="swap" and nothing more.

I ran into this problem on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit. The method from pos 14
initially did not work for me, but setting PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=1 using
the same command did the trick. I also tried the method from post 21
first, which, unfortunately, did not work for me.
