It might be interesting to know that the problem also occurs when using
gvncviewer (on jaunty). I started my vm using virt-manager and verified
(in /proc/../cmdline) that kvm is spawned with "-k de".
Eventually, both gvncviewer and virt-manager use libgtk-vnc, which might
be the place to look for.
This seems to be fixed, I cannot reproduce it anymore.

This bug affects me (working with kwin) on Ubuntu 9.10, backports
enabled.
The symptoms are EXACTLY as described in comment #14 of bug #204927, so
I'm not retelling that story ;-)

firefox: 3.5.8+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.10.1
kde-window-manager: 4:4.3.5-0ubuntu1~karmic

Binary package hint: backup-manager
Cron regularly sends me an email containing
/etc/cron.daily/backup-manager:
expr: syntax error
/usr/share/backup-manager/sanitize.sh: line 97: [: -gt: unary operator expected
It looks like this doesn't break things, but I won't bet.
Appar
Upon invocation from cron, backup-manager has some HAL_... environment
variables containing much data.
>From /usr/share/backup-manager/sanitize.sh, around line 97:
function replace_deprecated_booleans()
{
for line in $(env)
do
key=$(echo "$line" | awk -F '=' '{print $1}')
My symptoms are gone, can access the virtual terminals well.

Changing kernel parameters didn't help for me.
Instead, restarting xorg did.

I have the same problems as the previous two posters. Also it seems that
the old workaround of using this PPA https://launchpad.net/~george-
edison55/+archive/ubuntu/gnome-settings-daemon no longer seems to work.
Can we get a heads-up?
