I am still experiencing this bug on Ubuntu 9.04. The linked upstream bug
report attributes this to the modeline plugin, however I have disabled
the plugin and it does not solve the problem.

Yeah, same on a Compaq Presario r4000 series with Canadian Multilingual
layout. Thanks for the dead key+space workaround, I was having a hard
time writing regular expressions without ^

Yes, I can confirm this bug on a Compaq Presario r4000 series laptop:
when pressing either the volume up or volume down button, they become
"stuck" and continue raising or lowering the volume continuously. What
is more, the other keys (even the alphanumeric ones) of the keyboard no

If you have a non-functional version of Firebug installed from within
Firefox, uninstall it before or after installing the new one from the

I've also had this problem, sometimes when searching the screen will
freeze for a few seconds, go totally black, and then reappear.
Intel i7, 8GB RAM, 1GB video, so I doubt it's insufficient hardware
specs.

Given that the constant CPU usage lowers battery life significantly,
this pretty much stops me from being able to use Ubuntu on my laptop.

I have this problem. I tried upgrading the kernel to 2.6.39-0 and that
doesn't fix it. ~30% CPU usage by the kworker process at all times.
