For those on Bionic and who recently met the trouble, try down-grading
linux-firmware to 1.73 from 1.73.1. Test.
I have a different wifi chipset and met problems wifi with the update solved by
the downgrading.
Of course, YMMV. If this helps, then a new bug report must be filed for each
chipset
PS: kernel 4.15.0-33 will not work with the downgraded linux-firmware,
but 4.15.0-32 and earlier will.

In my case, the issue appears when the "Show Desktop" icon routine is
used, and not when the desktop per se is clicked upon.
Happens on both 32 and 64bit, intel graphics.

No with both uninstalled CPU does not rise to 100%.
I assume with Ryan Lortie's (desrt) news there is no need for the
"apport-collect -p lib
I see the same thing but have noticed that it is related to time: try
making very fast selections with the mouse and it works; take normal
time and the selection underway drops.
Another work around if you want to select a whole word or string of
whole words: double click first word and hold button

I was in the process of upgrading from 15.10 to 16.04
It seem to crash out at very end of installation saying my system may now be
unusable. Well I rebooted and am using it now. and am following your
