Upgraded to 9.04 witch has 180.x driver default and it's working
perfect. I did not manage to upgrade 8.10 to new driver, X did not work
propertly.
There must be as Alex Murray say, that there was a bug in older Nvidia
driver 17x that was corrected in 180.x

I looked and there was no update-notifier installed. I used Synaptic and
installed it.
I thought this was supposed to be a standard utility to insure that the
system was up to date but I have only used Ubuntu before, not Xubuntu.
Maybe Xubuntu does not include this app by default?

'devtmpfs' used by 'none' is not recognised as a valid filesystem"
The script that is reporting this is gen_mounts in folder
/usr/lib/tiger/systems/Linux/2/
