I want to confirm that this package is not prepared in right way. And it
is pity as xxkb is very cool keyboard switcher; I guess it could be very
useful can be useful for XFCE (xubuntu) or IceWM. I would like to
install it to GNOME desktop too.

You was right. multiverse repository was not prepared in sources.list by
default. So I uncommented only backports that was prepared.
I used "Software Sources" tool to add multiverse directory to
sources.list. I can install vmware-player now.

Compaq Deskpro EN SFF (Intel BX chipset based, [EMAIL PROTECTED]) cannot
poweroff with kernel 2.6.15-26-server (Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS server).
Boot parametr "acpi=force lapic" is fix for this probem.
Poweroff on this machine worked fine with Debian 3.1 and kernel 2.4.27-3-686.

drop) files from mounted CDROM in gedit. gedit warned me that it cannot
detect character encoding, it offered some character sets. I selected
CANCEL
When you will not chose CANCEL but RETRY, gedit will open file several

Memory in PC was tested with memtest86+, no problem found.

I noticed that this report could be extended from timestamps to file
rights, to umask.
$ umask
0022
WGET set file rights to 0644:
$ umask; ls -l lucid-alternate-i386.iso
0022
-rw-r--r-- 1 psl psl 673048576 2010-03-14 08:36 lucid-alternate-i386.iso
ZSYNC set file rights to 0600:
$ umask; ls
I retested with the latest kernel linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic and this
bug is NOT fixed. I see kernel crashed as documented here. I see this
problem at one PC only; other PCs I have run this kernel without any
problem.

My guess is that characters inserted to the XML file are not valid
UTF-8 data; some character with 8-bit value (>127) was not escaped
