I seems to have the same problem with r8169:

I probably have the same problem. It happens most of the time I try to
open Nautilus folder in browse mode. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 with ATI
X1550 and ATI Catalyst 8.5 driver.
If compiz is not enable, there is no problem at all.

This issue is still present in 8.04.2. It is an upstream bug
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=490181). Fixed in
Debian with nfs-utils 1:1.1.2-6.

sometime the server completely freeze with cap lock and scroll lock on
(not blinking). The only thing I could do is to hit the reset button
