I've got problems too. My editing with Netbeans has become really bad
because when scrolling or doing some other operations there's too much
lag. Looking at 'top' on shell I see that Xorg raises up to 90% of
cpu... that's not acceptable.

I've got a simlar problem: I cannot change my password anymore!!

it does not even ask the current passwd. The same happens for the user, except
that it asks for current passwd and when entered it just e
some more: I'm using aqua data studio to do some queries on a db. Xorg
cpu rises to 97%.

I've got this too. Seldomly the screensaver hangs when I want to login back.
It happens with more frequence if I leave an image moving, i.e. not a balck
screen.

I cannot reproduce your problem but I think that at least they're connected.
It seems like that the drivers locks up with top windows (as drag&drop, popup
etc).
I really hope they'll be able to fix it soon because here it's
everything too slow.

Same behaviour here.
I tried to uninstall/reinstall hal dbus but nothing.
Seems like anyway that if I boot ubuntu in rescue mode [single mode] I'm able
to run and start dbus and hal.
This *does not* happen instead with normal boot.
Right now the steps I do to have my working gnome desktop are:

start` and after a few seconds it stops in a "wait4 (-1, " message.

Hi, yes it is still an issue. When I switch from a desktop with no 3d effects
to a 3d-normal effects one, I start having problems with the switcher. In
particular:
1. all applications in desktops 2, 3, 4... are positioned to the first one.

Good news guys, I fixed it!
Fixing the init scripts I saw that klogd was blocking the booting process. I
googled for "starting kernel daemon" and came here
