Unfortunately, in the meantime, I have uninstalled and reinstalled
Ubuntu.
The two major differences are:
1) I am not running on wubi (which I don't suspect is the issue)
2) I am no longer running nspluginwrapper; I am directly running 64-bit Flash.
I am 99% sure that is the difference. I believe
New to bug reporting... please be patient here.
I noticed the same error on my machine:
Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron

Firefox 3.0.5
nspluginwrapper with 32bit Flashplayer (the native 64 bit version from Adobe
was just awful)
It rarely seems to manifest, but it can be duplicated by going to

Confirmed:
1. I have several email accounts I pull from, but to be honest, I only ever
receive new mail on my gmail account.
2. My ethernet cord stinks. This is critical: one must be *disconnected* from
the mail server, and reconnected.
3. Pidgin then goes and re-retrieves the list of new mails

I was not doing anything special, it simply froze in the middle of the

Occurred when I restarted Firefox, interestingly. Music just went flat

bug as I had above, but it sure is a bug.

Additionally, again, I think I've pinpointed it a bit more (same bug?):
it seems to crash when it tries to open read only files. It should not
need to open these files as read-write.
Also, can someone change the status of my bug?

Actually, I can confirm I'm no longer having the issue as of Oneiric
Ocelot. I even did a clean install, and the driver installed without
jumping through the hoops like I had above. I can't explain why you guys
might still be experiencing problems.

I am getting this issue frequently, but not every time I close the lid.
My laptop is indeed plugged in, and the only solution thus far has been
to pull up the terminal via ctrl-alt-F1 and force close Xorg. I find it
important to note that this did not occur in any form until my upgrade

Please disregard my post earlier; I was able to replicate the bug, and
the issue was *not* that the mouse was frozen, the issue was that the
screen was frozen (the mouse was the only thing I got to move!)
I will need to file my own bug, if I can figure out how. Apologies.

It doesn't happen every time, but often if I close the lid and reopen it
on my laptop, the screen goes completely frozen. The mouse works, but
clicking anywhere or using the keyboard does nothing. Even the spinning
