being a security/permissions issue I would guess it simply wouldn't
connect to the user's X session and Gnome services and crash due to
that. Do it without sudo for useful output.

Could somebody please change the openmpi-bin package dependency on
openmpi-checkpoint from "recommends" to "suggests", to stop the flood of
duplicates? This is what most commonly pulls blcr-dkms, which is non
functional since kernel 2.6.35 and its failing to build causes an error
to show up on ever

Seeing repainting issues on two different computers (single-monitor + nvidia
graphics, FWIW). Specifically, I've seen point 3 in the description (I don't
use suspend and I haven't seen painting issues at login - I use autologin,
though), and other examples:

I don't think the flashing is due to the fade animation at all. With no
fade effect it is still possible to see the white flashes. For some
reason, a blank surface is being created on opening a menu, only to be
destroyed and replaced with the actual menu - the fade effect only makes
it more obvious

people don't know this directory exists is why browsing should start
there. $HOME is always accessible from the left-hand pane. In the event
