Won't read $HOME/.xsession here either.
It even ignores the .xsession file when I link it to the Autostart
folder for KDE. .xsession file is executable (thoug do other things in
this folder start as it should).
Running the .xsession file manually does the trick, but it's annoying.

If you still get this error when NOT using terminal, you can add the
variable before the application for menus and right-clicks:
in KDE like this:

- Download: https://packages.ubuntu.com/cosmic/all/virtualbox-ext-
pack/download
- Install it by "sudo dpkg -i virtualbox-ext-pack_5.2.10-4_all.deb"

I have the same problem, and I tried to create a new user. Even "Try
Kubuntu Desktop" from the install disc does the same. It's very annoying
and I'm trying to figure out what it is.

This bug seems to be related to plasma-nm (plasma network manager). For
me it took a long time before the "Edit connection" actually showed up,
about the same time it took for me to boot into KDE.
So I tried to setup the network the old fashioned way with
/etc/network/interfaces and removed plasma
Well I see a bunch of people have this problem as well, I run KDE (with
effects) and it logs me out from time to time. Mainly just running Opera
and irssi. Suspect it must be some flash via Opera than which cause the
