Same for me, after update to kernel 2.6.28-8-28 and xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics 0.99.3-2ubuntu3 the touchpad works fine on the X300. Thanks to
all developers for making a good job!

It does! Also the CPU max frequency is now back to 2.4GHz after
unplug/replug cycle.
