This bug seems to be plague all hda SBx00 microphones
I saw a bug 480815 and the user gilianphilippo had a working solution. I have
tweak it a little and tested it works on NV53
Add following
options snd_hda_intel model=laptop
options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 enable=yes
to /etc/modprobe.d/al
Add following
options snd_hda_intel model=laptop
options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 enable=yes
to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
seems to be working as well

I needed both lines/I added both lines, did not test only with one of
them. Will do that tonight and file a bug with lucid. I have the same
hardware, as above, Gateway NV53 laptop.

I am using 9.04 Ubuntu,
Graphic: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
DE: gnome
cairo-dock: 2.0.8
compiz is on
I tested on several themes, same issue.
