I have a Sony sz-740. It has been 2 month I'm working on brightness but i
could not solve the problem. I'm really confused. Please help me.:((. I tested
everything . I'm quite disappointed! I tried "xbacklight" command but I got an

This indeed fixes the issue of ca, cbc and cv. But cdargs itself still
doesn't work as described above.
Btw, are there any problems in having cdargs-bash.sh bundled by default?
i.e. in /etc/profile.d/? I believe that would be a sensible default.

Oh right, cv works indeed.
Regarding /etc/profile.d/ we could check for bash at the beginning of
the script, but actually there might be other related problems to doing
this like collision with existing packages (radiance package provides
'cv' as well).

I have developed a PRELIMINARY TEST FIX for this problem, which is
caused by a dysfunctional ACPI _BCM backlight brightness control method
in the Dell Studio 1558 firmware (and likely the other 155x models).
The fix involves overriding the use of the _BCM method with the Intel
GPU i915 driver's opr

I'm still working on polishing the patches -- I consider this to be a
"PRELIMINARY TEST FIX" only, but I would like to get confirmation from
the other bug subscribers that the method works without problems for

I have fixed this bug. The fix is available in these forms:
- forwarded a patch upstream to sf #2926629 (gpsim-0.24.0)
- update package for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic (gpsim-0.22.0), available in my PPA:
