I'll second this problem. Differences: I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Turning off desktop effects DOES solve the problem. Edit->Preferences didn't render. Sub-menus don't render. Message pane doesn't render. Everything is really slow. System is completely up to date as of May 3rd. -- T

I have a similar problem. On a Lenovo laptop, I upgraded from 9.4 to 9.10. I was fine between kernels 2.6.24-19 though 2.6.28-15. The last kernel, 2.6.31-10 has prevented me from booting in either recovery or normal mode. Boot stops progressing after displaying crypto disks. I can access the drive
