Christopher, I think it is not necessary to test "latest" firmware.

Public bug reported:
This is more of a nuisance than a bug, but when installing via the net
installer (I'm using Xubuntu's 14.04 "mini.iso") the install begins
before gathering basic info. Knowing that I'm on a limited bandwidth
connection, it is frustrating when I think that I've kicked it off an

This is not kernel bug, however. It's a dupe to bug 874535.

Hi David!
Could you post an exact line to edit in PulseAudio config files for
Ubuntu 12.04 (pulseaudio 1:1.1-0ubuntu15.3)?
File /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-
headphones.conf have no [Jack_InputDevice] string, and file 'analog-
output-headphones-2.conf' exists in same dir.
I've reinstalled/upgraded since this bug was reported. Haven't
experienced this in the new builds.

Summarizing, to fix sound distortion it's necessary to apply two fixes, one for
alsa and other for pulseaudio.
Pulse config change retains after reboot and possibly "survives" pulseaudio
package upgrade(s).
Alsa need mute fix to be re-applied after reboot, and it can be done
automatically. Add

Basically, the command
pacmd set-sink-port 0 analog-output
tries to switch the port (from analog-output-headphones) and this is
shown in the GUI, but it doesn't make the desired effect.
