nvclock actually does its job. I only need nvclock to adjust GPU fan
rpm, and that part (thanks God) work fine. Command "nvclock -f
--fanspeed XX" (where XX is number of %) does not give any error and
does its job. But it would be nice if that "stack smacking" issue get
fixed...

password triggers restart of X. When password is retyped after X
restart, all is OK.

That package should be included in Karmic Beta, right? Well I just did a
clean install of Beta, and I still get "bad filedescriptor" with just
about any .deb
So appears it is not fixed.

I have same problem, but is not only in firefox. Any text dragging
results slowdown and kwin turns off desktop effects.
It is KDE 4.2.3, Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit (Kubuntu added via synaptic),

I updated to Karmic Koala, and I think there is no any bug anymore. When
I type 'nvclock --info', there is no that "stack smacking" anymore.
'nvclock -f --fanspeed XX' works fine as well. Well done fixing that

Thanks for reply.
Concerning reproducing this bufg, you do not even need to make HFS+
partition on HDD, if you have empty USB flesh drive, format it to HFS+
and it will work... I mean "not work" :).

OK, I found what is the problem. Local server that Ubiquity installer
chose instead of me, it is probably b0rked. So I changed server in
software sources, and now is all fine.
