I add here the complete sequence steps i do to trying to generate previous
reported issue:
first i use unity-2d i run gnome-language-selector it open dialog
1) i click on install/remove languages
2) i select english lang to add and confirm
3) system ask me for passwd ok
4) it install english re
I confirm the issue, clicking the cancel button from an authenticate
window (bug 863875).

Seems this updates solve the xorg crash issue, and now i can login with no more
trouble on lightdm.
Still not able to switch with ctrl+alt+F1 to pseudo terminal because i cannot
get a valid resolution (i get out of range message).

On a just installed Ubuntu 11.10 i get chinese in my Ubuntu i see it
into installed language, but is not installed and i cannot remove from
installed languages...
So to remove unwanted chinese (not installed) from terminal i do:
localedef --list-archive
to list the locales defined
and then to m

Solved by manually remove all the /usr/lib/libreoffice directory tree
sudo rm -fr /usr/lib/libreoffice
and then recreating the /usr/lib/libreoffice/basis3.4/program/ directory

@Toby i'm not on the pc with issue now i have a lot of packages to be
removed with autoremove so i will try and i report here... but there is
not a valid reason to have this startup issue keeping the old
packages...
Then the system will boot without issue in rescue mode...

@Joseph i get same exact error with kernels 3.2.0.7.7 and with 3.2.0-2
i have no issue starting in rescue mode with both kernels, the filesystem is
clean...
