On my laptop the problem come out every time I update my kernel. Still the same
problem with the latest.
9.04 is expected in April 2009. Such a ling time to (try to) resolve this bug?

when I say "the system hangs", I mean that after typing my user name and
password to log in, the system partially reboot, and re-ask me user name and
password... And so loop.
I arrive at the Gnome Desktop choosing "recovery mode" at the grub and by root
shell modifying 2 files in /etc/pam.d
