A similar bug was present in Hardy (the trash icon didn't reflect the fact that
trash was empty or full but you had either to click on it, to fix the issue, or
restart the session or the system).
I made some tests on Jaunty but I hadn't able to reproduce the issue in this
distro.

This is related to bug #359392 and bug #363821. I think gnome-
appearance-properties should permit (with a warning) to enable compiz
effects also with blacklisted graphics card. A typical user cannot go
and surf into the web to find a

I think gnome-display-properties should display 3d info (that is if it's
enabled or not) and not force the user to go to command line and launch
glxinfo |grep direct
(tested with Hardy)

Well Sebastien, I don't think that system log is directed to "everyone".
Obviously I also think 3d info is nowadays a useful info for a typical user;
let's think at a user that has problems to play a 3d game and want to discover
if, at least, 3d of his graphics card is enabled or not: in Windows

distro, fixes the bug present in Hardy.

I think it could be a good idea if the verification is done via network
connection to a blacklist that could be subjected to modifications. In
fact if a critical bugs, due to regressions, is fixed in a certain
distro it shouldn' be considered anymore by either Ubiquity or upgrade
manager.
