I am encountering a similar crash whenever I click "System Settings" --
"Monitor and Display". My system version is Kubuntu Feisty with
2.6.20-15-generic.
It seems that this happens after I installed the ATI binary xorg driver
from Adept. Could you please tell me how to fix this? Thanks.

I also am experiencing the first problem -- please let me know how and
what I can submit to help reconstruct the issue. This is my first time
filing bugs on launchpad, so sorry if I miss a beat ahead of time.
Currently, I am using the gpointing-device-settings and altered my
settings in /usr/lib/X

tried again 'apt-get -f install' it worked.
Then I updated + dist-upgrade and it went all smoothly
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I've tried several different versions of Ubuntu to see if any one of
them is stable. I've tried 32 and 64 bit versions of 12.04 and 10.04
Ubuntu. All clean installs and have had a variety of results, it seemed
like in most cases it would freeze more frequently the more updates I'd
install. However,
It seems that an upgrade to 12.10 worked for me, because it has the new
kernel 3.5. I'm still testing it and found a few bugs (audio is buggy
and skype crashes a lot) but I doubt they are related.
I also checked my Arch Linux kernel and it was also running 3.5 so
perhaps the kernel can be in some
