Binary package hint: usplash
I'm using Kubuntu 8.04 64bit.
The splash screen "KUBNTU" disappears when It is writed "Reading files needed
to boot".
Perhaps it is because I'm using ReiserFS ?
I'm not sure because it does this before checking any filesystem.

it doesn't seems to fix my problem. I have installed the package and tried
and I have exactly the same problem.
My groups or users have not any special characters. Only ascii. I think it
is a display problem.

No I have not any messages error, it starts up correcty all is fine.
It is just that the splash disappear. I cannot test on other computer sorry.

I have the same problem. With dapper and edgy, my Happauge Nova Tv works, but
it does not on Feisty.
When I start my feisty, the video card is recognized and I have /dev/video0.
Even kopete see Hauppauge nova-t dvb-t.
But in kaffeine nothing, i don't have the TV icon anymore to watch TV.

Empathy is always shown in the notification area. It breaks the gnome
H.I.G.
There should be a way to disable this icon if there is no new messages.
When I click on the close button of my contact list, I want the
application to quit.

This bug also affects me : If I disable my wireless card, my computer
can shutdown properly. If my wifi card is enabled, the computer hangs at
the end of the shutdown process. I just have a black screen and nothing
happens.
