The Toshiba 490XCDT is a rather old laptop, featuring a Pentium II
processor, i440BX chipset, and a 1024x768 LCD display driven by a 2MB S3
Virge MX. I have just installed Xubuntu 8.10 on one.
On this hardware, the s3virge driver has the following serious issues:

think it should be feasible to fix this in jaunty-updates and also in
karmic.

I've installed your packages Daniel, and I'm getting some other
instability. compiz or unity restarts or compiz/unity dies without a
restart. I haven't done any debugging yet on these issues, but I will
continue to look into it.

Just a quick report: Jason's fix and Daniel's packages appear to be
working wonderfully ! Over the past 24 hours, compiz cpu usage has not
climbed and remains steady <=4% on both of the machines I work on which

wrong with Ocelot and Compiz and Unity and nVidia. In fact, this issue
is one reason why I haven't upgraded one of my machines. I did upgrade
my work machine, and I had similar issues as above. I managed to finagle
the settings
