I have the exact same problem here. Seems to be related to the preview
function in the INFORMATION frame on the left hand side of Dolphin. If I
close INFORMATION down it will work just fine browsing the directory.

Since the upgrade to KDE 4.2 I now seem to be able to remove panels
without a problem so I guess we could close the case now.

I too have this issue on Hardy. KDM-KDE4 states the following path:
(which obviously is broken)
KDMRC=/usr/lib/kde4/etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc
I haven't made any modifications to the KDM configuration.

I have the same problem. I can't get any of the hotkeys to work. Not
even the preconfigured Print Screen trigger. I too have multiple
settings for each hotkey listed under Keyboard Shortcuts.

Even though the Doplphin home folder location is configured to be e.g.
"file:///home/user" the setting is disregarded and it defaults to
"file:///home/user/Documents".
The package version is Dolphin 4:4.1.96-0ubuntu1~intrepid1~ppa1 and it's
running on Kubuntu 8.10.
