In the /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-kernel-nkc file you can have two drivers:
nvidia and nvidia_new you should have nvidia_new (!), After changing the
file just reboot.

I have the NVIDIA Driver 177.80. What's you version?
install nvidia-settings package to check you version and in the video

A workaround for pidgin is to go to the Advanced tab in the Account
properties and change the Encodings to UTF-8,CP1252 and check the "Auto-
detect incoming UTF-8". This will mimic the X-Chat behavior.

In my DELL Laptop (Precision M90) for some months and in a randomly
manner my video output (monitor) just sends me garbage (like an out of
sync). Even if I go to the console (Ctrl+F1) the video is in 'garbage
mode'. Some times this problem doesn't happens one day but the next
I'm on Hardy and I don't have other OS's and even if I had it's hard to
test it because of the randomly manner of the problem.
I'm now testing with this options (/etc/modprobe.d/options):

No, but for now no problems yet with this settings.
There are some problems with the latest nvidia drivers with some laptops. So
the DELL's support just told me to try this.
The problems with the drivers it's because the PowerMizer feature.
If no problems in a week I will report here.

1- Burn an Audio CD with some tracks from another CD or mp3 with CD-TEXT
enabled. After burning the the Audio CD you will have a costum CD;
2- Just insert the Audio CD and the Sound Juicer will popup with wron
the upstream bug# 311571 is for the 2.11.x branch and I'm using a 2.16.x
release. The last comment was at 2005-10-03 (to long!!) saying that some
kind of fix was commited to the CVS HEAD. If was on CVS HEAD then the
fix must be on the 2.16.x release.

Same problem in a clean install of ubuntu 10.04 and even copying files from the
same partition (EXT4).
Load average goes to 5!!

I build the driver from ftp://x.org/pub/individual/driver/xf86-video-
ast-0.89.9.tar.gz and now the module loads fine... but xorg still does
not load.

I found that running startx by hand works fine. starting gdm does not!
I can help you building a package after this is fixed :-)

Sorry, I can't attach the logs now. The machine is being used now.
BTW I was using Ubuntu 9.04 maybe Y.C. Chen can test on this version and
attach the logs using gdm and using xdm.

I found this now also. The menus in thunderbird are not integrated (or
ugly) with gnome and I installed this package to see if something happen
differently then I found that the package is... empty?!!

I have the same problem in a MacBookPro5,5 with nvidia and I have
installed gnome-desktop3-data 3.3.91-ubuntu2 (not sure why I don't have
gnome-desktop3 package). When I open the laptop ther's an error "could
not set configuration for crtc NNN" (where N is a number).
