Same problem here when installing from CentOS 4.5 DVD iso image in Ubuntu 7.04 (an old installation, upgraded). However, unlike described above, both "-no-acpi" or running without kvm extensions worked for me. The installer in that case is able to detect and use the image. -- Disk Errors with KVM

In my case the symlink wasn't missing but pointing to a nonexistent file /usr/bin/firefox-3.5 - I had to remove and recreate it in order to (re)install firefox. -- [MASTER] package firefox 3.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: update-alternatives: error: alternative path /usr/bin/fir
