Same problem here when installing from CentOS 4.5 DVD iso image in
Ubuntu 7.04 (an old installation, upgraded). However, unlike described
above, both "-no-acpi" or running without kvm extensions worked for me.
The installer in that case is able to detect and use the image.

The /usr/bin/firefox link pointed to nonexisting /usr/bin/firefox-3.5 -
maybe that was manually created some time ago, maybe autocreated, I'm
not sure. Removing the link and manually creating a link to
../lib/

In my case the symlink wasn't missing but pointing to a nonexistent file
/usr/bin/firefox-3.5 - I had to remove and recreate it in order to
(re)install firefox.
