Finally AFAIK there is no possibility to handle foreign architecture
separately in the packaging. The best fix to get a pure 32-bit Wine
installation might be to make "wine" an architecture-dependent package
(arch:any) instead of arch:all, but I don't really see the need to do

Getting these messages is perfectly normal even for programs that run perfectly.

"i386". A default Gnome installation on amd64 installs only the amd64
plugins, not the i386 ones. So I only have gstreamer1.0-plugins-

In the end I decided to let libwine recommend gstreamer1.0-plugins-good, but
only suggest gstreamer1.0-libav, gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad and

However the original reason that prompted you to do this ("Couldn't run winecfg
due to having i386 library on a AMD64 system") seems to be a misunderst
For the avoidance of doubt:
Most/many Windows applications are 32-bit. You do need wine32 installed
for them. wine64 is of no help here.
But also for 64-bit Windows applications you normally need wine32
installed (next to wine64) because some required Windows/Wine subsystems
are 32-bit only.

Yes, each of these commands should give you 3.0 in bionic:
apt install wine1.6
apt install wine-stable
apt install wine
I'm not totally sure if the last one works, feedback welcome.

Yes, that needs fixing, but don't overdramatize the issue ;)
libsane is only a recommends, so it is not mandatory. You still can
install and use Wine, right?
The only restriction is that you can use only either 32-bit or 64-bit
scanner drivers (affected people by this should be close to zero).

Wine Gecko 2.21 was for Wine versions 1.5.31 to 1.7.2, while the new
src:wine is at 1.8.4 and the new src:wine-development is at 1.9.18.

Make Wine packages synced from Debian

you already have wine1.7 installed. Now you're trying to install wine1.6
next to it (see DpkgTerminalLog.txt). This is not possible: these
packages conflict with each other, because they provide the same files.
