I figured out the problem. The config file parsing in the postinst
script is very fragile. If you place spaces around the colin like this:
mailhub=sasl.smtp.pobox.com : 26
Then the postinst script will fail with a mysterious message. The
solution is to remove the spaces:
mailhub=sasl.smtp.pobox.

I couldn't find where HASPEERCRED is defined so I removed the ifdefs.
SO_PEERCRED is available via sys/socket.h. Maybe including this header
is a new requirement compared to debian or previous ubuntu versions?

I have an HP LaserJet 1022 connected to dd-wrt. I can telnet to port
9100, but when I try to print nothing happens. When I watch the print
queue with system-config-printer, it seems like it is working but
nothing happens.
/var/log/syslog shows:

I noticed that if I curl router:9100 (that's where the dd-wrt printer
daemon listens) then the printer will print the HTTP request.
The printer also works fine when connected to a computer via USB.
