Well, I can't run that under any of the kernels that panic on boot (obviously).
If I try and run it under the 3.0.0.17 kernel, I get:
The problem cannot be reported:
This is not an official Ubuntu package. Please remove any third party package
and try again.
I can add that I upgraded to 3.2.0-23.
Leann,
I can +1 your linux-image-3.2.0-23-generic_3.2.0-23.37~postponeirq_amd64.deb
fix. Finally have a working kernel again!!!
BTW this is a mainline kernel bug, and is pretty widespread. Seen the
same effect on 11.10 (any kernel after 17), 12.04rc (including the
default boot on the desktop cd)
This is also affecting the Gigabyte u2442 series. I have tried the
3.10.rc1 kernel as well with no luck.

Here's the quickest way I've found (this requires that you've set a root
password):
* Edit the normal (non-recovery) grub entry, removing "quiet",
"splash",and "vt_handoff". Optionally add "--verbose".
* Press Ctrl-X and let the system run through the boot process until it
hangs.
* Hit SysRq-i,
