It seems like a recent update has changed something and now it don't get
to the graphical login. I login by using recovery mode then resuming the
boot (which bypasses drivers I believe) and this lets me get into
Cinnamon, although with software rendering.

Okay, the good news is that Wily has worked and it boots pretty reliably
-- only had a few occasions where I had to hard reboot.
Problem though, and I'm guess its because of the current status of Wily
is that a lot of the packages I am trying to use are now broken and
refuse to either install or w

netscaler gateway, which is used by my corporate workplace for VPN

I'm using a macbook pro with the GeForce 330m graphics card.
Whenever I plugin a 2nd display as an extention (not cloned display option)
with the highest resolution 1920x1080 the screen will lock up.
This is also happening frequently when using lower resolution after a while
If I deactivate the laptop display while using an external it seems to work
even in the higher resolution.
But it will always crash if I use both displays with their highest resolutions
